DIY Spring Wreath Tutorial

Supplies:

Grapevine Garland: Grapevine garland is an excellent base for your wreath, providing a natural, rustic look that perfectly complements the season.

You can also buy an oval grapevine wreath to simplify the process. I had the grapevine garland on hand in my craft room, so spending additional money didn’t seem necessary.

Greenery: To add depth and texture to your design, use one type of stem or an assortment of greenery, such as faux leaves and ferns. I used this Bright Green Foliage.

Speckled Artificial Bird Eggs: Lastly, sprinkle some speckled artificial bird eggs to infuse your creation with a Spring or Easter vibe. I had my speckled eggs on hand. They varied in size from approximately 1″ to 1.5″.

Additional Supplies:
26 Gauge Brown Wrapped Wire
Glue Gun
Wire Cutters

Now that you’ve gathered your materials, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get crafty! Follow these simple steps to create a simple DIY Spring wreath that is sure to impress:

Step 1: Prepare Your Materials

Hopefully, you’ve gathered your grapevine garland, greenery, artificial bird eggs, a pair of wire cutters, a glue gun, and wrapped wire. Lay out your materials in a well-lit workspace, ensuring you have plenty of room to maneuver as you assemble your spring wreath.

Step 2: Shape the Grapevine Garland

Secondly, start by shaping the grapevine garland into an oblong/oval shape, adjusting it as needed to achieve your desired size. You can make your wreath as large or as small as you like – just be sure to maintain a consistent shape throughout.

My wreath measures approximately 16.5″ in length by 14″ wide. I wrapped my garland twice and used the brown-wrapped wire to keep it all attached.

To help achieve the oval shape, I wrapped jute wine around the middle of the wreath (at its shortest width) and tied a bow. Pulling the two sides together takes the roundness and manipulates it into more of an oval. I also soaked the wreath in water and dried it outdoors.

Step 3: Add Greenery

Cut large stem(s) of greenery into smaller pieces. Next, tuck sprigs of greenery into the grapevine base and secure them in place with floral wire as necessary. Aim for a balanced distribution of foliage up the left side and along the bottom.

Obviously, you’re welcome to incorporate different textures and shades to create visual interest.

I, however, chose to keep it simple and used one stem of greenery. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different arrangements until you find one that speaks to you.

Step 4: Attach the Bird Eggs

Lastly, once you’re satisfied with the greenery placement, it’s time to add the finishing touch – the speckled artificial bird eggs. Carefully glue the eggs among the foliage at the bottom of the wreath. Space them out and glue them together to ensure a balanced look.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

Step back and admire your handiwork! Assess the overall appearance of your Spring wreath and make any final adjustments as needed.

You can embellish your creation with additional decorations such as ribbons, bows, or flowers if desired. Your creativity is limitless!

Step 6: Hang and Enjoy

Once your Spring wreath is complete, it’s time to proudly display it on your front door. Use a wreath hanger or a 3M hook.
