On March 29, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $4 billion in tax credits under the Qualifying Advanced Energy Project Tax Credit (§ 48C). The announcement includes over 100 projects across 35 states to accelerate domestic clean energy manufacturing and reduce greenhouse gas emissions at industrial facilities.Established by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the § 48C Program was expanded with a $10 billion investment under the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. At least $4 billion of the total $10 billion will be allocated for projects in designated § 48C energy communities—communities with closed coal mines or coal plants as defined in Appendix C of IRS Notice 2023-44. The § 48C Program provides an investment tax credit of up to 30% of qualified investments for certified projects that meet prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements. Several FCHEA members have announced they had received funding through the § 48C Program over the past few weeks, including Bloom Energy,Electric Hydrogen, Ballard Power Systems, Nel Hydrogen, and Nuvera Fuel Cells, LLC. They were joined today with an exciting announcement from Topsoe, who will build a solid oxide electrolyzer cell manufacturing facility in Chesterfield, Virginia. The project is supported by $136 million through the § 48C program.FCHEA is proud of the strong support for hydrogen manufacturing technologies, which will be critical in achieving our nation’s decarbonization and economic goals.https://lnkd.in/dgXCVqAD

Last night, during lively panel discussions hosted by HY24 and John co*ckerill, hydrogen industry leaders includingJillian Evanko (CEO of Chart Industries), Francois Michel (CEO of John co*ckerill), and Lorenzo Simonelli (Chairman & CEO of Baker Hughes), Andy Marsh (CEO of Plug), Pierre-Etienne Franc (CEO of Hy24), Isela Bahena (Managing Director of Nuveen Real Assets and Infrastructure), andIvana Jemelkova (Senior Managing Director, FTI Consulting) explored opportunities for finance and investment in the growing hydrogen industry. This event was hosted with the backdrop of the Energy Observer’s first visit to New York City. The Observer is the world’s first autonomous, zero-emission hydrogen-powered vessel, which has been sailing all over the world for the past seven years to demonstrate the potential of renewables and hydrogen for the decarbonization of maritime and mobility applications.FCHEA is excited about the potential that hydrogen brings to this sector and the innovative progress FCHEA members and partners are already achieving, including with the Energy Observer.Plug PowerChart Industries, Inc.John co*ckerill HydrogenBaker HughesToyota Motor CorporationAir Liquide

Today, U.S. President Joe Biden hosted Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at a summit in Washington, D.C. Hydrogen featured prominently in the conversation, with both leaders expressing their interest in promoting hydrogen energy, enhancing related supply chains, and reducing costs to producers. The U.S. hydrogen sector already has strong ties to Japan through a variety of international companies expanding their presence in America, joint ventures underway, and product exports between the two countries. We at the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) are greatly excited to see the Biden Administration expand its joint efforts with Japan to bolster bilateral cooperation and further recognize the critical role that hydrogen will play in decarbonization. FCHEA has had a long-standing member base of Japanese companies and holds strong working relationships with Japanese entities New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) who are working to define best policies, practices, and applications for hydrogen. We are especially proud of our relationship with FCHEA’s peer the Japan Hydrogen Association (水素バリューチェーン推進協議会).Toyota Motor CorporationHondaJERA AmericasYamaha Motor Corporation, USAMitsubishi Power AmericasAGC GroupHoriba ScientificIHI Energy Solutions
