When you look at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, you think of a Polynesian Paradise. The lush tropical landscape surrounds the Polynesian style longhouses. Disney really transports you to the perfect tropical getaway.
Disney Breakfast
When comes to a Disney breakfast a few things come to mind. One is Disney character dining, which is popular for a Disney Breakfast. Character dining is when Disney characters like Cinderella, Winnie The Pooh, and Mickey Mouse of course come and greet you at your table as you eat.
The other Disney Breakfast thought is Tonga Toast! If you say name a favorite Disney breakfast food, you will hear Tonga Toast!
Tonga Toast
Tonga Toast has been a staple on the Polynesian Resort for as long as anyone can remember. What is Tonga Toast?
Tonga Toast is thick-sliced sourdough French Toast that is stuffed with a banana. Then it is covered in cinnamon sugar and fried. This breakfast staple at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is amazing.
Banana French Toast
So is Tonga Toast basically a Banana French Toast? Well yes! But it is Banana stuffed French Toast with Polynesian flair!
Walt Disney World Classic
The Tonga Toast is a Walt Disney World Classic. You can get Tonga Toast at Kona Cafe or at the Polynesian Resort’s quick service, Captain Cook’s! This iconic breakfast item is the must-try if you stay at Walt Disney World’s Polynesian Resort!

Tonga Toast
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 3 minutes
Total Time: 13 minutes
Tonga Toast is served at the Kona Cafe at Walt Disney's Polynesian Resort. This Disney breakfast is legendary. Bananas, sourdough and cinnamon sugar are what make Tonga Toast amazing!
Ingredients
- 4 slices sourdough bread, cut 1 to 1 1/2 inches thick
- 1 banana
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- oil or shortening for frying
- whipped butter and/or syrup
Instructions
- Cut a 1-inch pocket on one side of each bread slice.
- Cut banana in half crosswise, then split each piece lengthwise.
- Remove peel and stuff two pieces of fruit in each pocket of bread; set aside.
- Mix sugar and cinnamon; set aside.
- Mix together well the egg, milk, and vanilla.
- Heat about 4 inches of oil in a pan to 350º F.
- Dip stuffed bread into egg/milk mixture and let it soak a few seconds to let penetrate bread.
- Fry the bread on both sides in hot oil until lightly browned, about 3 minutes.
- Drain on paper towels or wire rack.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and serve.
